Foster Parent and Adoptive Parent Consultation Services
My name is Stacey Goodson. I have been a foster parent for more than six years and worked in the child welfare field for more than ten years. My husband and I have had the amazing honor and privilege of parenting some really amazing children. We have adopted three of our children from MARE and did a guardianship for the fourth; each of them teenagers. While we certainly don’t claim to know it all, or even have it all together, we have figured some things out and I want to share with others what we have learned in an effort to make your life easier and your relationship with your child(ren) better.
Before contacting me for a consultation, please note, I am not a licensed therapist. I am a parent, with experience, willing to share my experiences with other parents. You cannot bill insurance for consultations. It is also important to share where our parenting style comes from. Dr. Karyn Purvis and Heather Forbes are two of my favorite authors (of course, after Julian Goodson, author of “Thoughts of a Foster Dad”). They wrote “The Connected Child” and “Beyond Consequences, Logic, and Control,” respectively. These two books focus on connecting with your children and building relationships with them. They also do a great job, in my opinion, helping to understand why “logical” parenting does not work with children that have experienced trauma. We frequently will say “connect before you correct” and “praise positives, ignore negatives.” For some children, this works amazingly well. For us, it has worked. For some children (and parents) it will not work. It requires an entire mindset change for some and the ability to be willing to not care what others think about your parenting style and try something new. If you are visiting this page and contacting me about a consultation, I will go out on a limb and say what you looking for something new to try!
I can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org,on Facebook messenger at “Thoughts of a Foster Mom,” or by filling out the information below, to schedule a consultation. Consultations are scheduled around my crazy family’s schedule and are available via telephone, Facebook video messenger, or Alexa messenger.
Consultation services are $10 for the first 15 minutes and $5 for every 15 minutes after. $25 per hour.
My services are not a 24/7 on call service and I will not be able respond at all times to contacts and emergencies. The child’s therapist or child welfare social worker should always be contacted in case of emergency as well as emergency personnel, if necessary.
